Shea Moisture is an all-natural bath and body company that aims to bring to life the health care techniques of past generations. Their Community Commerce line also intends tofight poverty by donating 10% of proceeds to projects and organizations. I only have one of their products to reveiw, but I will also discuss the company itself and the organizations they support.
Behind the Product
I received this dry hair solution as a gift and was excited to see the words "Community Commerce" on the box. I was also excited to see all-natural "intensive hydration". Will it work like it says it does? Stay-tuned to find out.
Manuka Honey & Manfura Oil Intensive Hydration Complex
The product claims to:
encourage a healthy scalp
encourage lustrous hair
promote healthy growth
leave hair soft
leave hair manageable
leave hair resilient
help replenish oils
helps hair look vibrant
When you first use the dropper to add a tiny amount of product to your scalp, it's surprising how much area it really covers. But it does absorb quickly, it doesn't stay on the surface of your hair to make it look greasy.
My hair definitely seems to be softer after I use the product. I'm honestly not sure if it's more manageable though. Since I just recently cut my hair
Alright, now for the general rating scale:
On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being just the worst and 10 being almost unbelievable, how would I rate the...
Design: 7. The packaging is nice and the dropper in the bottle is a nice touch to help you regulate how much product you're actually using.
Quality: 8. Everything seems to be very high quality. The packing and bottle are very nice and seem like they will last. The product itself looks to include great quality ingredients.
Eco-Consciousness: 7. The packaging contains a minimum of 25% recycled materials. They are cruelty-free. The ingredients used are natural and some are organic.
Social impact: 7. The product is Made in the USA. The company's motto is "Ethically trade ingredients sustainably produced", which I love. Of course. This line of Shea Moisture products is intended to give back to the vary communities that source and make the ingredients of the products. They also donate to women-led businesses and other foundations.
Behind the Product
"A certified B Corp company with a Fair for Life social and fair trade certification, Sundial engages in ethical and cruelty-free business practices and manufactures its products at its state-of-the-art facilities in Long Island, NY. Through its Community Commerce purpose-driven business model, the company creates opportunities for sustainable social and economic empowerment throughout its supply chain and communities in the United States and Africa, focusing on entrepreneurship, women’s empowerment, education and wellness."
Sundial owns both Shea Moisture and Nubian Heritage. Both companies strive to use natural, organic products and operate under fair trade standards. Nubian Heritage is geared a bit more toward a social purpose while Shea Moisture is generally less outspoken about this.
Sundial also founded the Sofi Tucker Foundation, filed as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit. This organization works to support communities in Western Africa as well as the United States through educational programs.
Now, coming back around to the product I have... Shea Moisture has released a product line, Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil, that is directly linked to their social programs. When you buy a product in this line, 10% of the proceeds go to non-profits as well as the communities sourcing and manufacturing the ingredients for these products. The main focus of the support is to fund training and improved infastructure so the local community can attain sustainable solutions for better manufacturing and fair trade.
Overall, the products from both Nubian and Shea Moisture are created in order to give consumers an ethical, healthy choice when shopping for hair and body care products. They want to use ethical supply chains, source natural ingredients and ultimately, they hope to give back to the communities they work with. Sounds good to me.
I just got these products! So check back in a few months for a review on how the products held up!
