Alaffia became a favorite company of mine when I came across a body wash in Marshall's. I read the bottle and was blown away by their clearly stated social mission: beauty, equality, empowerment. Since I first discovered the company, I've tried out a few of their products, I'll link some of the reviews or lists below!

The general rating scale:
On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being how you feel after binge-watching TV instead of accomplishing things and 10 being how awesomely easy it is to binge-watch on Netflix, how would I rate the...
Feel: 8. They feel great on my skin. None of the products feel heavy or oily.
Design: 8. Most of the packages are the beautiful kind that you leave out on your bathroom counter because they are too pretty to hide. In general everything is highly functional.
Quality: 8. I am confident in the quality of these products, especially for the price. There are certainly a few downsides to some of the products, but overall I'm very happy with how everything works and lasts.
Eco-Consciousness: 8.5. This company goes above and beyond to limit their impact, from recycled and recyclable materials to zero waste factories to animal-friendly practices.
Social impact: 8. They manufacture in America, give back to their community and source any non-USA ingredients from Fair Trade suppliers. Overall this is a very conscientious company.
Behind the Product
Okay, now the part I'm really excited about :). This company touches on almost every component of global consciousness that I am really passionate about:
Zero-Waste Factory: I don't see any information on this, so I assume it's not a big push for them.
Animal Friendly: Products are cruelty-free but not vegan. They do use bee products in some items. Though not certified vegan, many of the products could be suitable for vegans.
Made in the USA: The company is founded by an American woman and West African man and their aim is to help out in both of their home communities. Though the ingredients are sourced in Togo, the final product is created and packaged in Olympia, Washington. The company aims to not only empower those in poverty in West Africa, but those in the Washington community as well.
Local Community: As stated above, they care to be involved in these communities. They are respectful and tuned-in to culture, understanding what their employees actually need. They create programs in the towns to help uplift the entire community.
Fair Trade: The co-operatives in Togo are all Fair trade Certified.
Involvement in Local Organizations:
Quality Ingredients: The ingredients used are traditionally used in Africa as powerful, potent and rich beauty products. They are pure and natural. The company is committed to not included parabens or other common questionable ingredients. It is Made Safe certified meaning "The MADE SAFE (Made with Safe Ingredients™) seal means that a product is literally made with ingredients that are not known or suspected to cause human health harm... Certified products are made without known behavioral toxins, carcinogens, developmental toxins, endocrine disruptors, fire retardants, GMOs, heavy metals, neurotoxins, pesticides, synthetic fragrances, reproductive toxins, toxic solvents, or harmful VOCs. It then goes above and beyond: Ingredients have been further examined by a chemist for bioaccumulation (builds up in our bodies), persistence (builds up in the environment), and general and aquatic toxicity
Commitment to a High Quality Product: And all of this is accomplished while creating a useful and effective product.
